Smartschoolsplus, inc. is a family held, Arizona “S” Corporation. Officers, Bill and Sandee McClelland founded smartschoolsplus,inc in August, 2002.
Upon retirement following successful careers as educators and administrator, the President of smartschoolsplus, Inc. returned to work under ASRS guidelines. The financial, intrinsic and emotional advantages of continued service to the educational field prompted the need to assist others. After researching various retirement programs, data regarding Arizona’s work force, state legislation, and the looming teacher and workforce shortage, smartschoolsplus, Inc. Phased Retirement Program was born!
smartschoolsplus has focused their expertise in the areas of Arizona State Retirement rules and regulations, and return to work stipulations. Our experience as career educators provides a framework for the internal functions of school district operations and human resources. The development of the Phased Retirement concept was initiated to help and assist school employees with both a financial and emotional bridge to retirement.

The firm has established itself in a very short amount of time, as the leader in the field, specializing in customized Phased Retirement Programs. We are a ‘first-in’ Arizona firm to specialize in “phased retirement” for teachers, support staff and administrators. The uniqueness of our firm differs from our competitors, in that we are not a temporary placement or leasing agency. We provide a ‘systems approach’ to assure long-term sustainability and success for the district and potential phased retiree’s.
As “Arizona’s Leader in Phased Retirement”, smartschoolsplus provides services to districts throughout Arizona. They range in size from the largest districts in the Phoenix metropolitan area to mid-size and small rural districts throughout the state. Many districts are in the process of contracting for phased retirement services with smartschoolsplus for the upcoming school year. The company is proud to have saved our district partners over $2m in 2004-05 alone!
smartschoolsplus has brought a new industry to the state of Arizona and has shifted the thinking about the value of veteran staff working in school districts. By shifting the thinking through implementation of the smartschoolsplus Phased Retirement Program, districts are a step ahead in solving the future problem of the retiring boomers. The progressive, forward-thinking of this program, is providing Arizona school districts with a pro-active strategy against tight budget restraints and looming teacher, administrator and support staff shortages.
